Informed by Critical Race Theory, Critical Race Feminism, DisCrit, and bioecological systems theories, my research agenda centers around the academic success and college readiness for gifted Black students with dis/abilities and Black girls. All of my work focuses on the experience of students and families in navigating schools, while also providing recommendations for dismantling systems of oppression through policy and practice. As an extension of this work, I was recently awarded $220,000 in grant funds from the Eli Lilly Foundation to support the training of culturally responsive practices and partnerships among preservice and inservice school counselors and administrators. To learn more about my research see my curriculum vita or contact me at rdmayesphd@gmail.com.
